Patricia Durante was 26 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with leukemia. \u201cIt was the worst day of my life,\u201d Patricia says. \u201cWe were planning a family and beginning our lives together and it just felt like the end was near.\u201d<\/p>\n

At 31 weeks of pregnancy, Patricia delivered her daughter, whom she named Victoria Angel. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for her, I never would have known I had leukemia,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Patricia was prepared to do whatever it took to fight the disease and be a mother to her newborn daughter. After being infused with Victoria\u2019s cord blood, the family waited every day for Patricia\u2019s bone marrow to rebuild.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was to give life to my baby but she gave life to me.\u201d \u2013 Patricia Durante<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe transplant was a cure,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m not in remission because my bone marrow was replaced with my daughter\u2019s stem cells. She saved my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
